Most US states with legal sports betting offer self-exclusion programs through their gaming commissions. Self-exclusion allows you to voluntarily ban yourself from gambling platforms for a set period (typically 1 to 5 years, or permanently).

To enroll in a self-exclusion program:

  1. Contact your state’s gaming commission or regulatory authority
  2. Complete the self-exclusion application (available online in most states)
  3. Once enrolled, licensed operators are required to block your account

Self-exclusion is a serious step toward recovery and is available at no cost.

Recognizing problem gambling early is important. Common warning signs include:

  • Betting more than you can afford to lose
  • Chasing losses with larger bets
  • Borrowing money to gamble
  • Neglecting work, school, or family responsibilities due to gambling
  • Lying about gambling habits to friends or family
  • Feeling restless or irritable when trying to stop gambling
  • Gambling to escape problems or relieve anxiety
  • Spending increasing amounts of time thinking about gambling

If you recognize any of these signs in yourself or someone you know, reach out to one of the helplines listed above.
